March is World Lymphedema Month! March 6th is World Lymphedema Day. This is our opportunity to educate the world on Lymphatic Disease.
History
Saskia Thiadens is the founder of the National Lymphedema Network organization. She started Lymphedema Day to promote the awareness of lymphedema. March 6th was chosen to honor the day of incorporation for the National Lymphedema Network as the first nonprofit organization dedicated to lymphedema in 1994. In 2016, World Lymphedema Day was established by the United States Senate in response to a bill written by the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN). World Lymphedema Day has grown to include all lymphatic diseases, including primary and secondary lymphedema, lipedema, lymphatic filariasis, lymphatic malformations, and the full lymphatic continuum of diseases impacted by the lymphatic system. Watch this great video from LE&RN.
How Are You Celebrating?
Want to get involved? Check out LE&RN’s website for ways to get involved. Share resources to educate those in your community. Find an event in your community! Post a picture or host a fundraiser on social media with the tag #WLD2025! Light up your spaces in teal!
You can also join me in celebrating World Lymphedema Day as I give a community talk about cancer-related lymphedema at the Little Red Door Cancer Agency.
